Short Bio

Trent E Balius is a Scientist at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research where he leads the RAS Computational Chemistry team. His research focuses on developing and using computational techniques to improve therapeutics to combat human disease with a focus on RAS cancer targets as part of the NCI RAS Initiative . Trent did his postdoctoral work in the Shoichet Laboratory, in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) (and for a year at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at University of Toronto ). In 2012, he received his PhD from Stony Brook University studying Computational Biology in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics under the direction of Robert C Rizzo. Trent graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (UPG) with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics in 2006. Trent grew up in Frederick County, Maryland and returned home after years away.
Trent was diagnosed with dyslexia in the 3rd grade. Through receiving accommodation for his learning disability throughout his schooling, Trent was successful in academics. Because of his disability, from a young age, he has developed empathy and self-advocacy. Trent was forged into a strong and determined person. Through adversity comes strength.
